Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an auto-immune disorder which affects many organs but more particularly the Skin, Brain, Kidneys and Joints. Auto-immunity in brief means that our body’s defense system (immune system) whose primary function is to protect us from external attacks [bacteria, virus] conversely attacks the body itself. It develops a short term/long term inability to distinguish between diseased and healthy tissue leading to the degeneration/complications of the entity it attacks. SLE causes long-term (chronic) inflammation of affected organs leading to degradation in overall quality of life.
SLE is much more common in women than men. It may occur at any age, but appears most often in people between the ages of 10 and 50. African Americans and Asians are affected more often than people from other races. The underlying causes with auto-immunity are unknown. Genetic dispositions, Heredity or simple evolutionary mechanism of nature can be evaluated. SLE may also be caused by certain drugs. known as Drug-induced Lupus Erythematosus. Continue reading →
Astrology has its own love hate relationships. A very respected person from field of science once said to me, “If 1/2 of the world believes in Astrology, that does not make Astrology valid“. I could understand his predicament because the converse may also apply that If rest half of the world does not believe in Astrology then they stand invalid. If we look at the reasons why Astrology is not considered as a serious option by many and as mere form of entertainment or anxiety is because of the way its concepts and ideas are viewed. Predicting events through astral charts, using some attractive stones to alter and influence thoughts etc; are often subjected to ridicule. Questions like
“Why does a huge planet like Jupiter is seeking out just me?”
“How can the sun just identify me ?“;
“Is the saturn fed up with his rings that he is meddling in my business ?”
may have been a part of conversations and humorous discussions in many lives. So let us try and evaluate these concepts from a logical point of view. Continue reading →
Rudraksha beads have been synonymous with the spiritual history of India . The beads are known to increase ones spiritual energy and help one work their way to Moksha. Taking into account the vast literary history of Indian Vedic tradition the authentic information about Rudraksha is very sparse. This has led to many MYTHS, DOUBTS about the usage of Rudraksha.
There is a general belief that Rudraksha must not be worn by women and the bead is just a males dominion. I would like to discuss here about the authenticity of these beliefs and would carry the conversation forward about the methodology of Rudraksha usage for spiritual and health benefits. Polycystic ovaries, means that the ovaries develop more follicles than normal every month. Usually about five follicles start to mature during each menstrual cycle and at least one egg-containing follicle releases a mature egg at ovulation. But a polycystic ovary starts maturing at least twice as many follicles than normal, most of which enlarge and ripen but do not release an egg. It is estimated that between 22 and 33 per cent of women have polycystic ovaries. Some women go on to develop polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which means they have other symptoms in addition to polycystic ovaries. Other names for this syndrome include polycystic ovary disease (PCOD), functional ovarian hyperandrogenism, Stein-Leventhal syndrome (original name, not used in modern literature), ovarian hyperthecosis and sclerocystic ovary syndrome.
